This policy covers colourpicker.tools (“the site”), operated by The Idea Works. It explains what information is collected when you visit, who else receives it, and what you can do about it.
Your images never leave your device
This is the part most people want to know about. When you use theimage-to-palette tool, the file you choose is read by your own browser using the standard File API and drawn onto a canvas element in local memory. It is not uploaded. There is no server endpoint that receives it, no storage bucket it lands in, and no copy retained anywhere. Close the tab and it is gone.
The same is true of every other tool here. Colour conversions, contrast ratios, gradients, scales, palettes and exports are all computed in JavaScript running on your machine. The site is a set of static files; there is no application server behind it that could receive your input even if we wanted it to.
What we do not collect
There are no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter and no login. We do not ask for your name, email address or payment details, and there is no mechanism on the site for you to provide them — other than the contact form described below, where you choose what to send.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which tools and guides people actually use. It sets cookies and reports aggregate information: pages viewed, approximate country or region derived from your IP address, referring site, device type and browser. We see totals and trends, not individuals, and we make no attempt to identify you.
Google's handling of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out across every site that uses Analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Advertising
The site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. That means:
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads here and may use cookies, web beacons or similar technologies to target and measure them.
- These vendors may collect information such as your IP address, device identifiers, browser type and the pages you viewed, in order to select ads and measure whether they worked.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a wider list of vendors at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.com. Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them less relevant.
Cookies and local storage
Cookies on this site come from Google Analytics and Google AdSense as described above. The site may also use your browser's local storage to remember things like a recently used palette between visits — this stays on your device, is never transmitted, and can be cleared through your browser's settings along with cookies. Blocking cookies will not stop any tool here from working.
If you use the contact form
The contact form is handled by Netlify Forms. If you submit it, your message and any details you choose to include are stored by Netlify and forwarded to us. We use them to reply and nothing else — no mailing list, no sharing, no advertising use. See the Netlify Privacy Policy.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server access logs that may include IP addresses, timestamps and requested URLs, for security and reliability purposes.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — the UK and EU under GDPR, California under the CCPA, and a growing number of other jurisdictions — you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data held about you, and to object to its processing. Because we hold no accounts and no user records, there is usually nothing on our side to retrieve or erase. For data held by Google or Netlify, use their controls linked above, or contact us and we will help where we can.
If you are in the EU, UK or another region requiring prior consent for advertising cookies, ad personalisation is governed by Google's consent handling for publishers in those regions.
Children
This is a general-audience design utility, not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
Any revision will be posted here with a new “last updated” date. Material changes will be obvious rather than buried.
